Mother Teresa (born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, 26 August 1910 – 5 September 1997), was a Roman Catholic nun who started the Missionaries of Charity and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her work with people. ... Mother Teresa was a Roman Catholic nun who devoted her life to serving the poor and destitute around the world. She spent many years in Calcutta, India where she founded the Missionaries of Charity, a religious congregation devoted to helping those in great need. During her lifetime Mother Teresa became famous as the Catholic nun who dedicated her life to caring for the destitute and dying in the slums of Calcutta - now known as Kolkata. She shared many life lessons throughout her time on Earth, many of which centered around love, compassion, helping others, and maintaining humility. She embodied a wonderful example for all of us to follow – to simply love and give help to others without asking of either in return. Mother Teresa's accomplishments were that she was known for being a humanitarian and an advocate for the poor and helpless. She also won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979, the Pope John XXIII Peace Prize in 1971, and the Nehru Prize for Promotion of International Peace and Understanding in 1972.In a vision, Mother Teresa was called by Christ to leave teaching and to work in the slums of Calcutta, to, as she related the experience, “come be my light”. Mother Teresa was canonized nine years after her death If a second miracle follows, canonization and entry into sainthood can take place. Recognition of her first miracle resulted in Mother Teresa's beatification in 2003. She was canonized on September 4, 2016, as Saint Teresa of Calcutta. Saint Anthony is said to perform many miracles daily, and Uvari is visited by pilgrims of different religions from all over South India. Christians in Tamil Nadu have great reverence for Saint Anthony and he is a popular saint there, where he is called the "Miracle Saint."
